Happy Holidays at the Christmas Boat Parade in Newport Beach!

One of the best parts of the holiday season is all the twinkling lights on houses, buildings and trees. If you’ll be in Orange County for the holiday season, you’ll be able to enjoy yachts, boats, kayaks and canoes beautifully decorated with light! Join over a million viewers in viewing the 103^rd annual Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade hosted by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce. The parade will light up the harbor for five consecutive nights from Wednesday December 14 to Sunday December 18.

The theme for this year’s parade is “Feeling Christmas-Sea in Newport Beach.” The parade starts and ends in Bay Island Channel after traveling along the 14-mile Newport Beach coastline. Many of the boats, yachts, kayaks and canoes will be decorated with animated Christmas scenes, compete with holiday music and costumed carolers. Boat owners in the past have spent over $50,000 in boat decorations for the event. Viewers in restaurants, beaches, yacht clubs and private homes will be able to view the incredible lights and hear the music for miles.

The Christmas Boat Parade has been praised as one of the top ten holiday happenings in the nation by the New York Times. Beyond the beautiful vessels, stick around for the annual “Ring of Lights” contest where bayside homes and businesses will celebrate the holiday spirit with their own decorations and lights. The contest has several judged categories and prizes for the winners, who will be honored at the annual Awards Dinner & Auction on January 27, 2012 at the Balboa Bay Club.

On the final night, Sunday December 18, a fireworks display will conclude the parade at 9pm at Balboa Pier. Rudy’s Balboa Pier will close early that night for the show. With so many sights and sounds, the Christmas boat parade is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit in Orange County!
