If you’re in Orange County for the holidays, why not see a show at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in your spare time? White Christmas and the Off Center Festival: The Car Plays are playing at the Segerstrom Center this December and January.
White Christmas is a stage version of the classic holiday movie by Irving Berlin. Hits “Blue Skies,” “How Deep is the Ocean” and “White Christmas” will be some of the songs performed during the musical performance. White Christmas is the story of two buddies coordinating a show in a Vermont inn. Through the magic of the holidays they also manage to find their soul mates. It’s a great holiday story to enjoy with the while family, with dancing, laughter and great songs. White Christmas will play at the Sergerstrom Center from December 13, 2011 to January 1, 2012 with afternoon and evening shows. Tickets start at $20.
Off Center Festival is a nine-day celebration edgy theater, dance and music. Eight different performances will play at the Center between January 12 and 21. Performances include a variety comedy show, offbeat musicians, a poetry slam, dancing and much more. Single tickets to each show are $20, but if you buy tickets to four or more shows, you can buy tickets for only $10.
One of the highlights of this festival is The Car Plays. 15 short plays are performed at the same time inside parked cars. Small audiences of two move from vehicle to vehicle, viewing works in an intimate setting central to Southern Californians – the inside of a car. The festival was conceived by Paul Stein, a Los Angeles resident who had many fond memories inside a vehicle. Audiences will car hop and experience five plays in one hour.
The Segerstrom Center of the Arts is Orange County’s largest non-profit arts organization. It was renamed in January of 2011 to honor the generosity and leadership of the Segerstrom family. Every year it brings music, dance and theater productions to Orange County and works to inspire young people through the arts. Come see a show to brighten up your holiday season!
